Cortina Marmolada
The Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites reaching 3,343 meters above sea level at Punta Penia, rises between the Trentino’s Upper Val di Fassa and the Belluno’s Val Cordevole, connected by the roads of Passo Pordoi – between Canazei and Arabba – and Passo Fedaia – between Alba di Canazei and Agordino. Composed of gray limestone rather than dolomite like much of the Dolomites, the Marmolada is an imposing terrace at the center of the Pale Mountains region, with an almost boundless panorama enhanced by the largest glacier in the Dolomites.

More information
With a dual aspect, the Marmolada presents itself differently on its southern and northern slopes. On the southern side, it descends vertically with an imposing rocky wall, over four kilometers wide and up to a thousand meters high; the northern slope, however, slopes more gently towards Lake Fedaia and the ridge of Porta Vescovo, with slopes shaped by glacier action and flanked by the ridges of Sasso delle Undici and Sasso delle Dodici.
Despite the easy accessibility and strong tourist appeal guaranteed by the cable car that – in three sections – leads from Malga Ciapela to the summit of Punta Rocca, the Marmolada remains a playground for adventurous mountaineers and hikers who are ambitious and well-prepared.
In winter, the Marmolada is connected to the Arabba ski area (along the Sella Ronda circuit) in the heart of the Dolomiti Superski carousel. (source: trentino.com)
