The Val Gardena, stretching from Ponte Gardena to the Sella massif and the Dolomite passes of Passo Sella and Passo Gardena, is a side valley of the Isarco Valley. The Ladin-speaking territory of Val Gardena includes the municipalities of Ortisei (1236 m), Santa Cristina (1428 m), and Selva (1563 m), with a total of about 10,000 inhabitants. 90% of the Gardena population speaks Ladin as their mother tongue. Val Gardena is surrounded by the Dolomites, which were declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2009.
The Sella Group, Puez Group, Odle, and Sassolungo Group are part of the Dolomites of Val Gardena. With its 3181 m, the majestic Sassolungo is world-famous. The mountains and ski slopes of Val Gardena reach up to 2518 m and are easily accessible thanks to modern lifts connected to the Sella Ronda circuit.
